A Zero Day

Day nine

Tuesday March 7, 2017

I awoke this morning to the sounds of geese overhead, but above my hotel instead of my tent. Started the day with a big breakfast of eggs and sausages.  Fuel. Wandered around town for a bit and bought a few food items for my pack at Betty’s IGA. Then back to my room to sort through my pack and see if I could find anything that I could live without. I did find a couple of things but I also added a couple of things. All in all I will probably be back on the trail with about the same pack weight as when I left the trail.

The rains came about mid day and it has been steady all afternoon. Strong thunderstorms are forecast any moment from now. But I am snug and dry in my hotel room with a belly full of pasta and meatballs. And there are pastries and milk over on the counter for after I post this. Fuel. Life is good. Today was my first zero day and I needed it. I am at the helm of this journey and I decide when and where I go.

52.6 miles down      2137.2 miles to go

  1. Kinda like being the ships captain – deciding when and where you go! Glad you are fueled up and waiting for the next update.

  2. If the forecast proves to be correct, it looks like you should now enjoy a few warm days and mild nights of dry weather! Good to walk off all those calories you packed on in Helen!
